Having a house on their own is a dream for many. It remains as a distant dream for poor people. To fulfill their need of having their own house, The government of Andhra Pradesh has prepared a plan for the allotment of houses developed by the Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development (AP TIDCO). Under this plan, the government will provide the beneficiaries with AP TIDCO houses, spanning an area of 300 sq ft at the cost of one rupee.
Though many are claiming credit in this welfare project for poor people, the statistics prove it is CM Ys Jaganmohan Reddy who has taken the initiative to provide free houses for needy on 300 sq ft along with 365 sq ft, 430 sq ft flats for half of the price. He further spent on drinking water and for infrastructure facilities like roads, power and drainage systems in the colonies to provide hassle free living conditions.
The previous TDP government headed by Nara Chandra Babau Naidu has not even spent 10% of total budget but claiming the credit of TIDCO Project is not something new but doing selifie challenges standing before houses built without their contribution is something awkward. People and TDP party members should know the facts before falling into the credit trap of CBN.
TIDCO housing project needs more than Rs 28,000 Crs to complete. Chandrababu during his regime has spent much less than half of it. After Ys Jagan came into power, he allocated Rs 8734 Crs for TIDCO Houses. Withstanding the COVID pandemic, the government has completed 62,000 houses so far. An additional 3,000 crores were spent on basic amenities like roads and sewage systems to maintain healthy premises. Apart from this another 3,000 crs bills which were left pending by the previous government were paid by Jagan’s government.
According to previous Chandrababu government to own a house under TIDCO program one must pay Rs 3000 every month for 20 years to own a 300 sq ft house. This makes Rs 7.2 Lakhs in 20 years. But, Jagan’s government provided the same 300 sq ft house for absolutely free of cost. Due to this government bears additional burden of Rs 5340 crs for the sake of poor people. Same in the case of 365 sq ft and 430 sq ft flats. Government bears half of the cost of those flares which sums up Rs 482 crs and also another Rs 1200 crs for registration charges. Ys Jagan‘s government bears all these additional costs to give house for the needy in the least possible cost.
1,43,600 people were allocated 300 sq ft flats while 365 and 430 sq ft flats together makes 2.62 Lakh flats. 61,948 flats have been handed over already. Another 2,62,216 flats will be given to the people by the end of this year. For this the government bears Rs 18,714 crores which includes RS 14,514 crs as subsidies and Rs 1200 crs for registration charges.
